Book Reviews

“Haunting, insightful

This is a coffee break read that will haunt you. A read that shows how we can only rely on ourselves and not others. That looking back can be damaging for us and the only way to survive is to look forward.

You only get the briefest feel for the characters but they stay with you when characters described in pages will fall away like mist on a summers day.”

Starry Night and The Dance of Life, Goodreads Review

“The Shroud” is a very heart-touching short story written by the famous Indian writer “Munshi Premchand”. As you read the story, you don’t miss the satire, the gritty reality of life, the greedy side of human nature, and the harshness of life of the lower castes of Indian (especially).

The shroud’s name itself is ironic, because the dead woman named Bhudiya did not get the shroud for herself.

This story touch the reality. One of the masterpiece of Munshi Premchand. This is my first read of his work and I love his work. It is a must read story.

The Shroud, Goodreads Review

“If you want to read classics from Hindi Literature, this book must feature in your library. Premchand’s genius in pointing out the social evils is commendable. The characters in the story have beautifully displayed various human traits. What does celebrating a festival mean for you?

This story leaves a hard-hitting impact on the reader. Must read!”
